Despite having suffered from two major injuries early in his senior career, the FC Barcelona midfielder Gavi is once again back on the pitch and has played quite a lot of minutes in the second half of the 2025-26 season under Hansi Flick.

Fiery and aggressive on the pitch, the 21-year-old midfielder is also never shy to speak his mind whenever he is asked to opine on some topic.

This was clear once again as he appeared in an interview with Mundo Deportivo recently, in which one of the topics he was asked about was the type of player coming in to strengthen the team.

The Spaniard was very direct in his response when speaking about the mentality new signings should bring into the team:

“What matters most is that they are fully committed to the team. And that they don’t come in acting like stars or superior to others, because that doesn’t help. We all have to be united and pull together, like we’ve been doing these last two years. Whoever comes, that’s the only thing I want: that they are committed to the team and help as much as possible.”

The Barcelona midfielder also opened up on what makes him such a respected figure in the dressing room:

“I’m very natural. I always try to be myself, wherever I am, both on the pitch and in the dressing room. And my teammates respect that a lot. As I said, I always try to be that way, and I think I’ve earned my teammates’ respect because of it.”

Gavi also reflected on his own development over the years and how his mentality has been shaped since his early days at the club:

“Since I was born — well, since I started playing football — I’ve always had this mentality, this competitiveness when playing football. And obviously, I’ve improved in certain aspects. Maybe before, when we were younger, I complained much more, got angrier, and lost focus during matches. So, seeing that, with the coaches I’ve been lucky enough to have here in the youth system, who have been very good, they taught me these aspects that I’ve gradually improved.”

Having gotten rid of his injuries, Gavi is now playing consistently for Barcelona, and would now be looking to make his way into Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for the coming World Cup.
