Granit Xhaka urged Sunderland supporters to keep perspective after the draw with Manchester United at the Stadium of Light.
Régis Le Bris' side produced one of their strongest recent performances, edging the chances against a Champions League-bound United but without the breakthrough.
Noah Sadiki twice went close, Brian Brobbey was denied by Senne Lammens, and Lutsharel Geertruida struck the post as the hosts settled for a point.
The result moved Sunderland to 48 points with two games remaining, sustaining top-half chatter in their first season back in the Premier League amid debate over a cutting edge.
Asked if the team had scored enough this season, Xhaka said: “Is it enough if you get 48 points? Don't forget where we have come from...” He told BBC Radio Newcastle.
“The demands from the outside is big, and we are demanding of each other as well to score goals and not concede many. This is our first season together with many new faces. It takes time, so we just have to be proud of what are doing at the moment because we are having a great season. The target was to survive, get as many points as possible and see where we were at the end. Now in the last two games, we want to give everything and be proud of ourselves.”
