Alexander Isak will be welcomed back into the team by Eddie Howe if he decides to stay at Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
The striker was left out of the Magpies’ matchday squad for their scoreless draw at ten-man Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon while he continues to push for a move to Liverpool. The club insist he is not for sale after rejecting a £110 million bid from the Reds earlier this month
Newcastle missed their frontman at Villa Park as they spurned a number of first-chances and failed to create openings even after Ezri Konsa’s red card in the 66th minute.
Supporters could be heard chanting their opposition to Isak during a post-match interview with Anthony Gordon, who played as a false nine in place of the absent Sweden international.
Howe is hoping there will be a resolution to his star player’s future sooner rather than later and is leaving the door open to a potential return.
“Nothing has changed,” he said in his press conference. “The door is well and truly open. He has to decide what he wants to do.
“We would like a resolution. We need that clarity. You don’t need any kind of distraction.
“I am not in control of that. There is one person who can control that.
“Let’s wait and see. I have made my stance clear. I am concentrating on the team.”
Newcastle fans appeared to chant “one greedy *******” about Isak after the final whistle.
“The supporters acted really well today,” added Howe. “If afterwards, they want to say something, they are free to do that.”
