Dorival avoids pitch, referee talk, praises Corinthians’ prep vs Sport

On the afternoon of this Sunday, the 21st, Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match valid for the 24th round, Timão went to Ilha do Retiro to face the bottom team Sport and, after an uninspired performance, was defeated 1-0. With this, they remain with 29 points and, at the end of the round, will leave the top half of the national tournament standings.

After the match, coach Dorival Júnior spoke to the press in a press conference, where he avoided commenting on the pitch at Ilha do Retiro or the refereeing. “That's not my concern, I am the coach of the Corinthians team, we didn't get a result for what we produced, but due to these other details, it's not up to me to evaluate”, he said.

The coach also analyzed Corinthians' sequence of games in the competition, which promises to be challenging: “Look, the championship is difficult in all aspects, in every sense, both for those who play at home and away. We have recently had two, three results away, I don't see problems, we will have difficult, complicated games, yes, but for our opponents, they will be too. They won't be simple, easy games, Corinthians also wants results, prepares to seek results and I am sure it will be no different with this sequence.”

For Dorival, Corinthians has been preparing well for the games regardless of the opponent. “Since the first day of our return we have prepared our team for the difficulties we would face, showing in data, showing in videos everything that Sport was producing and suddenly not finding the positive result, due to small details. I believe we didn't give Sport much chance to win, but they took advantage of an important situation early in the second half and maybe we didn't have the strength to overcome this difference over time”, he concluded.
