Dorival Júnior has not ruled out changing Corinthians’ penalty taker after Yuri Alberto’s poor recent run. Despite being the club’s top scorer, he has missed four of his last five spot kicks.

According to Meu Timao, speaking after the 1-1 draw with Santos at Vila Belmiro, the coach said they would discuss the issue. He stressed confidence would guide any call, with the option to hand duties to another player for a spell and later revisit them.

Alberto failed from the spot against Santos, in normal time against Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil last 16, with a chipped effort versus Flamengo in the Brasileirão, and in the shootout with Cruzeiro in the semi-final of the same competition. Apart from the Santos attempt, those three were saved. His sole conversion in that stretch came in the 3-1 win over São Paulo.

For Corinthians he has taken 16 penalties, scoring 11 and failing with five, a 68.8% success rate.

He became the club’s designated taker around the turn of 2023 to 2024 after left-back Fabio Santos retired. From the current squad, Memphis Depay has taken penalties in matches, while Breno Bidon, Rodrigo Garro and Matheus Bidu have also produced good spot kicks in recent months.
