Dorival Júnior has equalled his longest winless streak since taking charge at Corinthians last April, a five-game run. According to Globo.com, the sequence features three draws and two defeats, with six conceded and three scored, and included elimination by Novorizontino in the Campeonato Paulista.
It included Portuguesa 1-1 Corinthians in the Paulistão and Cruzeiro 1-1 Corinthians in the Brasileirão. That was followed by Novorizontino 1-0 Corinthians in the Paulistão, Corinthians 0-2 Coritiba in the Brasileirão, and Santos 1-1 Corinthians in the Brasileirão.
Corinthians matched the same barren five-game spell between May and July 2025. In that run they drew with Atlético-MG, lost to Huracán of Argentina, drew with Vitória and Grêmio, and were beaten by Red Bull Bragantino.
Despite the current wobble, football executive Marcelo Paz signalled support for Dorival Júnior last week. The coach has a 53% record at the club, with 26 wins, 17 draws and 17 defeats in 60 matches. He has already lifted the Copa do Brasil and the Supercopa do Brasil.
Corinthians face Chapecoense at Arena Condá in Chapecó on Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time, in the seventh round of the Brasileirão. They sit seventh on eight points, São Paulo lead with 16, and Botafogo, the first team in the relegation places, have three.
