Borussia Dortmund entered the match with their sights set firmly on the top four, having collected 13 points from their last five Bundesliga outings. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, arrived at Signal Iduna Park in the midst of a seven-game winless streak, sitting in 12th place.

Guirassy strikes early

The home side wasted no time in asserting their dominance. In just the third minute, Guirassy latched onto a scuffed pass from Julian Brandt, composed himself on the edge of the box, and slotted past Kamil Grabara to give Dortmund an early lead. The goal, coming from Dortmund's first shot on target, set the tone for what would be a long evening for the visitors.

Wolves bite back

Despite the early setback, Wolfsburg showed signs of life. Patrick Wimmer came close to equalising in the 11th minute, his effort from a tight angle flashing just wide of Gregor Kobel's goal. The Wolves continued to press, with Andreas Skov Olsen narrowly missing the target with a header from Tiago Tomás's cross. However, Dortmund's defence held firm, limiting Wolfsburg to speculative efforts from distance.

Guirassy doubles up

The second half began with Wolfsburg showing renewed vigour, but their hopes were dashed in the 59th minute. A moment of brilliance from Pascal Groß saw him pirouette past two defenders before laying the ball off to Guirassy, who made no mistake from close range. The goal was a significant blow to Wolfsburg's resolve and marked a turning point in the match.

Adeyemi's devastating cameo

With the match tilting heavily in Dortmund's favour, coach Niko Kovač introduced Karim Adeyemi in the 67th minute, replacing Jamie Gittens. The impact was as immediate as it was devastating. Just two minutes after coming on, Adeyemi received the ball from Ramy Bensebaini, dribbled past Denis Vavro, and fired home Dortmund's third. The German international wasn't finished, adding his second and Dortmund's fourth just four minutes later, combining brilliantly with Brandt before slotting past the helpless Grabara.

Wolfsburg's woes

For Wolfsburg, the match was a stark reminder of their recent struggles. Despite having almost equal possession, they failed to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. Their best chance came through Mohamed Amoura, whose acrobatic effort in the 75th minute flew just wide of the post. Ralph Hasenhüttl attempted to change the tide with a triple substitution in the 70th minute, bringing on Jonas Wind, Amoura, and Lovro Majer, but to no avail.

Player of the Match: Serhou Guirassy

While Adeyemi's impact off the bench was significant, it was Guirassy who set the foundation for Dortmund's victory. His early goal settled any nerves, and his second effectively ended the contest. The striker's movement, hold-up play, and clinical finishing were a constant threat to the Wolfsburg defence. With 12 goals in the second half of the season, Guirassy has established himself as one of the Bundesliga's most potent forwards and a key figure in Dortmund's late-season surge.
