Richard Hughes’ contract issues are piling up.

The Liverpool sporting director needs to sort out a new deal for Ibrahima Konate as a priority - otherwise he risks seeing the France defender leaving the club for free in summer 2026.

And there are further problems coming down the track - in the shape of Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

Jones, 25, is out of contract in 2027 while the other two midfielders see their terms expire in 2028. It remains to be seen which - if any - of those midfielders remain at Anfield long term.

Robertson tipped to leave in January or summer

One player who it was assumed would LEAVE the club next summer upon the expiry of his contract is Andy Robertson.

The 31-year-old - signed for £8m from Hull City back in 2017 - has been a mainstay at Anfield since signing and has won everything there is to win in the club game.

But he fell down the left-back pecking order when Milos Kerkez was brought in from Bournemouth for £40m.

Linked with Tottenham in January, the Scotland captain ended up staying as Liverpool found difficulty in recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his Roma loan as cover.

New deal for Robertson

Robbo, it was thought would see out his Liverpool contract until the end of the season - with that deal reported to be worth £160k per week.

He would then have his pick of clubs on a free transfer - with Spurs and Celtic thought to be keen. But it looks like Liverpool could well be considering a U-turn in the case of Robertson - with TEAMtalk reporting that a new contract could be in the offing.

“Liverpool are considering handing Andy Robertson a new contract to keep him at Anfield beyond the end of the season,” the report reads.

“Liverpool could table a one or two-year deal to keep Robertson at Anfield, valuing his leadership and experience amid a transitional period under manager Slot.”

Obviously it would mean that Robertson would REMAIN as back-up to Kerkez with the 22-year-old now expected to be the long-term left-back incumbent.

But it’s testament to Robertson’s hard work and attitude that he’s got himself into a position to be offered a new deal.
