Manchester City have spent around 75 million euros to sign Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, adding a rare two footed blend of power, pace and unpredictability after Rayan Cherki.
He turned 26 on Wednesday and marries a 1.85m frame with speed regularly above 34 km/h. "Many people think I am left footed but I am right footed," he told The Athletic.
The numbers match the eye, his Premier League goals are split 14 with his left and 16 with his right. On Wednesday he also settled a 3-2 win over Tottenham in stoppage time.
Set pieces reinforce it, right footed penalties were converted against Everton in February and Brighton in September, then a free kick at Leeds the same month.
His signature action is simple and ruthless, carry inside, a short chop into the defender’s weak side, then a sudden shot, a pattern behind 12 league goals, six with each foot. He is a volume shooter, last season’s 125 attempts brought 11 goals.
Active without the ball but not a major creator, he suits a City side that craves decisive final actions alongside control. With wingers struggling in the league, only Phil Foden has more than 2 goals, he can play either flank and should see minutes. Bournemouth’s return looks secure, part of nearly 240 million euros in summer sales under Andoni Iraola.
