Dro Fernandez, the 18-year-old Spanish midfielder signed in January, scored his first professional goal on his sixth PSG outing as they won 4-0 at Nice on Saturday.
With Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves missing, the stage looked set for more Ligue 1 minutes, yet, according to L'Équipe, Luis Enrique initially turned elsewhere, even using Lucas Beraldo out of position when Senny Mayulu left with a calf issue before half-time.
Fernandez eventually entered for the final quarter of an hour and let his touch do the talking. A left-foot chop took him past Antoine Mendy, a right-foot sequence then beat Yehvann Diouf for the finish.
He celebrated in front of the travelling end alongside Ousmane Dembélé, Gonçalo Ramos and team-mates. The head coach said the 18-year-old’s game suits what PSG want, even if earlier outings showed he is still building athletically.
For the teenager, it was a concise cameo that underlined why his game fits PSG’s idea of play.
