Duñabeitia moves to Sporting Gijón with two-season purchase option | OneFootball

Aimar Duñabeitia has left Athletic to join Sporting Gijón on a permanent deal. as.com understands that the move includes a purchase option over the next two seasons, and he has signed for three years plus an optional extra year.

Raised at Lezama since Infantil B, the Gernika-born defender is noted for his robustness and character. He made 21 appearances for Bilbao Athletic this season, scoring two goals.

The 23-year-old centre-back had also attracted interest from Cádiz, who explored a loan in January, as well as from Tenerife and Deportivo. Cádiz subsequently secured full-back Beñat de Jesús, another Lezama product.

Duñabeitia’s exit comes as team-mates Eder García and Ibai Sanz head to Córdoba on loan in Segunda to gain experience.

Ibon Sánchez is also on Cádiz’s radar as an option for the attacking midfield role.
