FC Bayern’s women secured the German championship ahead of time with a 3-2 away win at Union Berlin. The Munich side had to respond to several setbacks, but in the end they deserved to win and crowned a dominant season.
Coach José Barcala rotated the team considerably compared to previous weeks, leaving Giulia Gwinn and Pernille Harder on the bench for the time being. Nevertheless, Bayern got off to the better start: After a corner, the ball landed with Bernadette Amani, whose unsuccessful finish ended up with Edna Imade, who slotted home from close range for an early lead (8′).
The Berliners responded promptly: After Barbara Dunst lost possession in midfield, Sophie Weidauer ran in alone on Ena Mahmutovic and slotted home to make it 1-1 (11′). The Munich side then dominated proceedings, allowing the ball and opponents to run, but rarely found clear-cut shots against the compact hosts. Linda Dallmann missed the best opportunity with a long-range shot that Cara Bösl saved well (34′).

Immediately after the break, the visitors took the lead again when Barbara Dunst shot from around 20 meters and struck precisely into the left corner (50′). Bayern continued to control the game for long periods after that and hardly allowed Union to develop.
Nevertheless, the Berliners came back and, after a remarkable combination down the left flank, Lia Kamber scored with a powerful shot to make it 2:2 (77′). The game was open again, but Bayern had the right answer: After preparatory work by Arianna Caruso, she crossed into the penalty area, where substitute Giulia Gwinn poked the ball into the left corner from the air (84′).
Union pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, with the hosts creating chances, but Mahmutovic prevented another goal in stoppage time with a strong foot save. At the other end, Pernille Harder missed the decision with an aluminium goal (87′).
The victory not only secured the Munich side their eighth championship, but also their fourth title in a row. FC Bayern are now champions with just four matchdays to go in the season – the earliest in the history of the women’s Bundesliga. The basis for this is an exceptionally consistent season with just one point dropped.
For the Bayern women, the Champions League semi-final first leg against FC Barcelona in the Allianz Arena awaits on Saturday at 18:15, followed by a league clash with Werder Bremen next Wednesday. Union Berlin continue their league campaign on Friday against Hamburger SV.
