Ecuador president declares holiday after World Cup last 32 spot and win over Germany | OneFootball

According to L'Équipe, President Daniel Noboa has declared Friday a public holiday to celebrate Ecuador's progress to the World Cup last 32. La Tri secured qualification with a 2-1 win over Germany on Thursday night.

Sebastian Beccacece's side had opened with a 0-0 draw against Curaçao, taking one point. With four points overall, they advanced as one of the best third-placed teams.

Noboa offered his congratulations to the players and head coach, noting they had endured criticism, insults and difficult moments before responding to deliver immense joy to the country.

Celebrations have continued across the country following the win.

Ecuador must wait a little longer to learn their last 32 opponent.
