Ecuador and Curaçao meet on Sunday in this crucial Round 2 clash of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with both teams aiming to bounce back after defeats in their opening matches.
Ecuador came into the tournament in excellent form after an impressive run in pre-World Cup friendlies. They recorded back-to-back wins against Guatemala (3-0) and Saudi Arabia (2-1), while also earning respectable 1-1 draws against strong sides such as the Netherlands and African champions Morocco.
Despite that momentum, La Tri suffered a frustrating setback in their first Group E match, losing 1-0 to Ivory Coast after conceding a dramatic winner in the 90th minute, which ended their unbeaten streak.
The positive news for Ecuador is that they have no injury or suspension concerns. Head coach Sebastián Beccacece confirmed that the entire squad is fully fit following the opening defeat.
With their World Cup hopes on the line, Ecuador are expected to adopt a more attacking approach in this fixture.
Veteran forward Enner Valencia will once again lead the attack as the main striker. He will be supported by lively wingers Gonzalo Plata, Alan Minda, and John Yeboah, who are expected to operate in advanced roles and provide width and creativity.
In midfield, Moisés Caicedo will play a key role in controlling possession and dictating the tempo of the game. At the back, PSG defender Willian Pacho is set to organize the defense.
With a fully available squad, Ecuador have both the physical strength and tactical options needed to push for an important victory in Kansas City.
Possible Ecuador starting XI: Galindez; Franco, Pacho, Ordonez, Hincapie; Yeboah, Caicedo, Minda, Angulo; Valencia, Plata
The match will kick off at 1am BST on Sunday, 21st June.
