United playing the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Newcastle having won 2-0 down at Arsenal in the first leg.

Eddie Howe’s side now potentially 90 minutes from a return to Wembley.

Eddie Howe Arsenal press conference – 4 February 2025:

“My message is, we are at the halfway point in the tie.

“Against any opposition, the game is still very much alive.

“We have to approach the game in a really positive and aggressive way, try and be ourselves, there will be no deviation from that.

“We are in a good position and need to make the most of every opportunity.”

Eddie Howe on creating a special atmosphere at St. James’ Park:

“I think [our success] has been a combination of us and the crowd.

“I think we’ve become a really potent team together and that is what we are going to need in this game.

“We are going to need to engage all our supporters in our energy and our body language, we need to make this a formidable environment for our opponent.

“It is our duty to do that.”

Eddie Howe on Saturday’s defeat to Fulham:

“It’s time to put that game away, focus now on the future.

“We have a massive game and massive incentive, we learnt our lessons and we know we can do better, but we are now focused on this next one.”

Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson:

“There is a chance, we have another training session to get through so we will see.

“Let’s get through training before we make a decision.”

Eddie Howe on Joelinton:

“Joey had a knee brace on as a precaution.

“I would say he is a doubt but we will give him every chance to be fit.

“Our centre midfield, we have good strength in depth – Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley and Joe Willock – they all bring something different.”

Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly have of course left now.

So it looks like from an injury/recovery perspective, only Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles definitely missing from Wednesday’s matchday squad, whilst Callum Wilson and Joelinton are doubts.
