Eddie Howe says he is surprised by talk of him leaving Newcastle.
Following Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup exit as they lost 5-1 on aggregate to Manchester City, there has been speculation that he may leave the club at the end of the season.
Asked about the comments ahead of Newcastle’s clash against Brentford, Howe shut down the talk of an exit.
“That’s a surprise to me. I give my best to the football club every single day, to all the players and the staff,” he said.
“I try to be the best version of myself to inspire the team to win games. That’s my only thought.”
He added: “I don’t tend to look too far ahead, but I try to prepare and plan for the club to move forward in every sense. My individual future isn’t really relevant.
“Who knows? I don’t know my length of time here, I’ve got no idea. I just try to do my best every day until told differently,” he concluded.
Howe’s side are now four games without a win, having lost to Liverpool at Anfield in between their two-legged defeat at the hands of City, as well as a loss to Aston Villa at the end of January.
Newcastle have dropped down to 11th in the table, but a win could see them leapfrog Brentford in seventh. They have struggled with injuries this season, and will be without Anthony Gordon at St James’ Park as the winger came off injured in the semi-final second leg.
