Manchester United are preparing to welcome their first signing of the Michael Carrick era, having all but wrapped up the signing of Ederson.
Last week, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Ederson had undergone “unofficial” medical ahead of a move to United. However, the Italian journalist suggested that the Atalanta man still needs to undergo formal medical tests in Manchester and put pen to paper on his contract with the Red Devils.
The initial plan was for Ederson to fly to England after his holidays. However, a new development in Brazil will force United to change their plans.
Brazilian midfield dynamo Ederson has received a late call-up to Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad following an injury to Wesley.
Meanwhile, Manchester United continue to work behind the scenes to finalise the finer details of his move.
According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola (via Sport Witness), Atalanta and Manchester United have scheduled a decisive meeting for Tuesday.
It is understood that meeting should settle the final details of the operation.
The journalist also spoke to André Cury, Ederson’s representative. Cury allegedly told him everything is already agreed in principle between the clubs.
Only small details remain and those are expected to be sorted by Tuesday, allowing Ederson to become a Red Devil.
It is believed United have agreed a deal worth up to €48m (£40.5m) with Atalanta for the 26-year-old combative midfielder, who moved to Bergamo from Salernitana in 2022.

At Atalanta, Ederson established himself as one of Serie A’s most physically dominant and versatile midfielders.
Ederson’s former manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, once insisted the player is destined for the top, stating: “In terms of physicality, regains and the timing of his runs, Ederson is definitely an extraordinary player, one cut out for teams at the very highest level.”
The Guardian claims United will pay the Brazil international approximately £70,000 a week at Old Trafford.
