Athletic Club have appointed German coach Edin Terzic as Ernesto Valverde’s successor, with the announcement landing only days before a key meeting with Valencia.

The deal runs for the next two seasons to 30 June 2028, ending months of speculation. The timing comes in the decisive stretch of LaLiga, with four rounds remaining.

Aged 43, Terzic built his reputation at Borussia Dortmund across two spells in charge. He won the German Cup in 2021, took the Bundesliga title race to the final day in 2023, and reached the Champions League final in 2024.

His résumé also includes roles within Dortmund’s wider setup, including the academy and sporting department. He has served as an assistant at West Ham United and Besiktas, underlining a broad, multi-disciplinary background.

Athletic value his attacking approach, youth development and dressing-room management, which align with the club’s philosophy. He will be formally presented after the season to avoid disruption, and Ernesto Valverde will not continue next term. The early move supports planning for the next campaign as the club aim to consolidate their project.
