Sunderland have decided not to activate the one-year option in Harrison Jones' contract, and the versatile midfielder can leave when his deal expires this summer.
Sunderland Echo understands that the Academy of Light graduate has interest building, with at least five EFL clubs and two in Scotland ready to discuss a move once he departs.
The Wearside-born youngster made his senior debut in August 2024, coming on for the final 20 minutes of a Carabao Cup first round defeat to then-Championship rivals Preston North End.
He has since added six more first-team appearances, including two starts under Regis Le Bris in the final month of last season's promotion push. Over a year earlier he made his first senior start in an FA Cup third round loss to Stoke City, which he called a dream come true.
This season his involvement has been limited to one start in a Carabao Cup loss to Huddersfield Town in August. He has been an unused substitute in 12 Premier League fixtures and was on the bench for last month's Tyne-Wear derby win at Newcastle.
Loan interest in January from EFL clubs faded after he suffered an injury in a Premier League International Cup tie against Borussia Dortmund. Since returning he has captained the Under-21s over the last month and scored an impressive free-kick in a 2-1 defeat to Derby County earlier this week, with several scouts in attendance.
