EFL: 'Disciplinary proceedings may result in change to Championship final' | OneFootball

The English Football League has provided an 'interim' update on its investigation into the spygate scandal involving Southampton and Middlesbrough.

The Saints have been charged by the EFL due to a member of the club's first team staff reportedly filming a Boro training session ahead of the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-final.

That game finished goalless with Southampton eventually making it to final against Hull City after a 2-1 win at home in the second leg.

However, that game isn't yet set in stone as the EFL have today revealed in their statement which has revealed that an independent hearing is to take place on or before next Tuesday (19th May).

"As the proceedings are being conducted by an Independent Disciplinary Commission, the EFL does not control the proposed timetable," the statement by the governing body went on to say.

"Notwithstanding this, the EFL continues to plan on the basis that the Championship Play-Off Final will take place as scheduled on Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time confirmed as 4.30pm.

"Supporters should, however, be aware that the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings may yet result in changes to the fixture.

"The EFL has a number of contingency plans should they be required, which also includes consideration of any appeal process, if required."

The EFL also encouraged fans to 'pay particular attention' to terms and conditions when buying any tickets for the play-off final set to be hosted at Wembley.
