As the countdown to the World Cup continues, more national teams are beginning to confirm their squads for the tournament.
The latest side to unveil their selection was Egypt, who announced a provisional 27-man group on Wednesday, although one player will still be cut after the team’s first warm-up match.
As expected, Mohamed Salah headlines the squad. The Liverpool forward remains the biggest name in Egyptian football and is set to lead the Pharaohs into another World Cup campaign. Manchester City attacker Omar Marmoush has also been included, alongside experienced goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy and former Aston Villa winger Mahmoud Hassan, better known as Trezeguet, who now plays for Al Ahly.
Before the tournament begins, Egypt will take part in two friendly matches in North America, facing Russia on 27 May and Brazil on 5 June. Head coach Ibrahim Hassan is expected to have the full squad available from Thursday at the national team training centre in Cairo.
This will be Egypt’s fourth appearance at a World Cup. Their first came back in 1934, while they also featured in the 1990 and 2018 editions, failing to win a match on both occasions. This summer, Egypt have been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.
