Egypt have approved an extension for Hossam Hassan after their historic World Cup run, keeping faith with the coach following a 3-2 last-16 defeat to reigning world champions Argentina.
The Egyptian Football Association said in a statement on Wednesday that it had approved the head coach’s extension, with president Hany Abo Rida linking the move to continuing the national team project and building on recent historic achievements.
Remaining formalities will be completed at the next board meeting once the delegation returns to Cairo.
Egypt reached the World Cup last 16 for the first time. They finished second in Group G behind Belgium and claimed their first win at the finals by beating New Zealand 3-1.
Hassan has been in post since February 2024. Under his watch Egypt qualified for the 2026 World Cup and for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they reached the semi-finals.
