Eintracht eliminated despite win | OneFootball

The Eagles beat BK Häcken 1-0 away in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Europa Cup semi-final, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the 3-0 defeat from the first leg a week ago.

Head coach Niko Arnautis’ side applied intense pressure right from kick-off and created their first chance after just two minutes when Elisa Senß took aim from just outside the penalty area, only for Fanney Inga Birkisdottir to keep it out with a fine reflex save.

Following Marthine Östenstad’s free kick, Nicole Anyomi dribbled into the box, skipped past a defender and smashed the ball into the top right-hand corner from seven metres out.

Altenburg was called into action again straight away after the restart. After Sara Doorsoun slipped inside the Eintracht penalty area, Monica Jusu Bah was able to get a shot away from ten metres out, only to be denied by the Eagles' custodian. 

Frankfurt throw everything forwardFrankfurt retook control of proceedings after that though, with their intensity and willingness to run once again pinning Häcken back in their own half. Rebecka Blomqvist had an opening in the 51st minute but was thwarted by Birkisdottir.

However, despite the team’s best efforts, they were ultimately unable to add to the scoreline. That spelled the end of the line for Eintracht in the competition following the 3-0 defeat in the first leg.
