According to Kicker, Eintracht Frankfurt are in the final stages of securing a replacement for Dino Toppmöller, with negotiations advanced and a presentation possible before their next Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen.

As things stand, Dennis Schmitt and Alexander Meier will oversee Frankfurt’s final Champions League game on Wednesday, at home to Tottenham.

Two Scandinavians, Jacob Neestrup and Kjetil Knutsen, have previously been mentioned as potential options.

It is looking increasingly unlikely that Marco Rose is the preferred choice. If he were, it is suggested an announcement might already have been made, and the former Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig head coach also has doubts about the role.

There remains the possibility that Markus Krösche has worked discreetly, meaning the chosen head coach has not yet surfaced publicly.
