Eiran Cashin has so far played just one minute in the Championship since making the temporary move from Brighton to Birmingham City.

The defender struggled for game time at the Seagulls when he joined the Premier League side back in January from Derby County.

The centre-back made just two top flight appearances in Fabian Hurzeler’s side, with the team earning a 10th place finish.

This led to him making the move this summer to St. Andrew’s, becoming a part of Chris Davies’ first team plans, with the club eyeing a promotion push once again after just coming up from League One.

Eiran Cashin game time claim made after slow Birmingham City start

When asked about Cashin’s potential playing time, FLW’s Birmingham fan pundit claimed that the defender will get his opportunities in the side, and that Brighton will recall him in January if that doesn’t become the case.

However, he believes the current partnership of Christoph Klarer and Phil Neumann is too good to rotate just yet, meaning the Irishman may need to be patient.

“I would’ve hoped the club would’ve sold it to him that he wouldn’t be a starter to begin with,” Moore told Football League World.

“We’ve tracked Neumann since last summer, and Klarer - you just can’t drop Klarer at the moment with how good he’s been.

“But, I also think we’ve also probably got a good relationship with Brighton, we’ve done a good bit of business with them over the past couple of windows.

“I think he’ll get starts, to be fair, unless they’re going to stay fit all season and in form all season.

“I don’t see a point where he doesn’t get games.

“But, to be fair, he hasn’t looked amazing to begin with, I think he needs a bit of time to fully bed in still, and learn how we play.

“I think he’ll be more than a fine loan move, he’ll get the game time he needs and he’ll get the development he needs.

“Worst case scenario, Brighton aren’t happy - I think they’ll be fine with - they’ll just recall him in January.

“I don’t think Blues would’ve sold him down the road, saying he’s going to play every single game, because what’s the point of that because it’s obvious he’s not going to.

“So, yeah, I don’t think it’s going to be a waste of a move.”

Eiran Cashin’s Championship experience

Cashin came through the Derby academy, where he cemented himself as a key figure in the side prior to his move to Brighton.

The defender earned the captaincy, and featured 21 times in the Championship last season as a crucial player in the Rams’ side.

The 23-year-old has made a total of 40 appearances in the second division in his career, and will be hoping to add to that tally during his time at Birmingham.

Eiran Cashin game time needs to come, or he’ll be recalled

Brighton will be keeping a close eye on Cashin’s progress, as he’s someone with a lot of potential and could become a part of Hurzeler’s plans if he can develop further.

But if he’s not playing at Birmingham, then the club will not hesitate to bring him back in January and seek a loan elsewhere.

Cashin was left out of the Ireland squad for this international break, so he too will be keen to get minutes once the league returns so that he can fight for a place as countries bid for a spot in the World Cup this year.

It’s positive for Davies that he has so many strong defensive options, but somebody is going to have to miss out each game and that’s Cashin for the time being.

That runs its own recall risk.
