One of the Boys

As a youngster, he played at the famous Wallsend Boys’ Club in Newcastle which has produced countless professional footballers and internationals.

Among their former players are Alan Shearer, Michael Carrick, Steve Bruce and former City striker Peter Beardsley.

In the blood

Anderson comes from a footballing family with his grandfather Geoff Allen, a former England youth international who played 26 times for Newcastle United before his career was sadly cut short by injury.

His father Iain played non-league football and was also a prominent coach in the north east.

Big brother

Older brother Wil, meanwhile, is famous as a contestant on the reality TV show Love Island. He entered the villa for the 2024 series.

Great Scot

Elliot was capped by Scotland from Under-16 through to Under-21 level but withdrew from the senior squad after his first call-up in September 2023.

He announced in 2024 that he had opted to play for England and made his senior debut against Andorra in September 2025.

Euro vision

He was part of the England side that won the Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia in 2025.

Scoring in the quarter-final win over Spain, then starting the wins over the Netherlands and final against Germany, Anderson was named in the team of the tournament.

On the ball

Anderson looks tailor-made for City’s possession-based football.

No player in the Premier League had more touches than his 3,300 during the 2025/26 season and he also led the way on duels won (298), possessions won (306) and fouls won (80).

Pass master

Of course, it’s crucial to know what to do with the ball once you have it and among central midfielders, Anderson completed more passes (2,038) in the Premier League than anyone else and also led line-breaking passes (376).

For Nottingham Forest, he created 54 chances and nine big chances – more than anyone in their squad.

Inspired by Kev

City great Kevin De Bruyne is his favourite player of recent years and an inspiration to his playing style.

“He was my favourite player over the past four or five seasons in the Premier League,” he said in 2025.

“Watching him all the time, just his eye for a pass, the way he plays, how nice he is to watch, it really caught my eye.

“He’s the sort of player I’ve been trying to copy and he’s obviously a top player so I’m doing something right if I can half-copy him.”

Facing Phil

Phil Foden is set to be a long-term team-mate after he signed a contract extension with the Club and Anderson will be happy to have him on his side.

Asked who the toughest opponent he has faced in training or a match in May, he said: “Phil Foden I’m going to go with.”

Dog’s life

Away from football, Elliot has two dogs – a German Shepherd and a Dachsund, called Leo and Obi.
