Elliot Anderson, currently at the World Cup with England, is edging towards a move to Manchester City as negotiations advance. Fabrizio Romano has indicated only final details remain before an agreement is reached.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder received a standing ovation when withdrawn in the 65th minute of the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on the final day, then joined the lap of appreciation. It felt like a farewell.
City have had two bids rejected, the latest worth more than £120m, reportedly £106m plus £15m in add-ons. Owner Evangelos Marinakis is handling talks and is driving a hard bargain.
A £130m price has been mooted, which would break the British transfer record set by Alexander Isak’s £125m move to Liverpool last year. Forest do not need to sell and Anderson is under contract to 2029.
United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle were linked as the 23-year-old excelled, with City emerging as frontrunners. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has made clear he would like him back.
A third City offer is expected and could arrive before England face Panama on Saturday. Thomas Tuchel has said transfers can proceed during the tournament and that medicals can be conducted in the US, although he would prefer they do not happen the day before a game.
Forest may prefer any sale to land in July for 2026/27 accounting, ahead of incoming Squad Cost Ratio rules. Anderson signed a five-year deal in 2024 for £35m, effectively £15m with Odysseas Vlachodimos moving for £20m.
