Elliot Anderson caught the eye this month after an excellent introduction into the England squad.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder earned his first senior call-up in September and started both games as the Three Lions edged closer to a place at next summer’s World Cup.
Anderson was named man of the match on debut against Andorra, and repeated the feat following Tuesday’s 5-0 win in Serbia. England have now won all five qualification games and are yet to concede a goal.
Anderson’s introduction into the side brought balance to Thomas Tuchel’s midfield. The 22-year-old’s off-the-ball work and assuredness in possession complemented Declan Rice, who impressed higher up the pitch in Serbia. With Jude Bellingham still to return, Tuchel may have found the perfect balance heading into next summer’s tournament.
Opta have released data detailing just how impressive Anderson was this month. The midfielder led his England teammates for successful passes (182), passes in the final third (66), forward passes (48), possession won (23), duels won (14), aerial duels won (7) and tackles (5).
His all-action performances mirror his start to the Premier League. Anderson currently ranks among the Premier League’s top two players on each of the following metrics: Touches, progressive passes, passes into the final third, and tackles won.
His star is one firmly on the rise.
