Eintracht Frankfurt striker Elye Wahi was arrested on 29 May over alleged fixing offences, with a Marseille public prosecutor’s office spokesperson confirming the incident, The Athletic reports.

French police detained him after accusations he deliberately took a yellow card in OGC Nice’s final home game of the Ligue 1 season.

The suspension ruled him out of the first leg of the promotion-relegation play-off against Saint-Etienne. He then struck twice in the return to keep his club in France’s top flight.

Wahi featured in Ivory Coast’s opening World Cup win over Ecuador, the woodwork denying him before Amad decided it in the 90th minute. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande was named 'Superior Player of the Match'.

Ivory Coast face Germany in Toronto on Saturday night. After a productive loan on the pitch, Wahi will initially return to Frankfurt after the World Cup.

He failed to score during his 18-month Bundesliga stint before heading back to Ligue 1 on loan, and Eintracht are not expected to keep him next season.
