Emerse Faé has left his role as Côte d'Ivoire head coach after the federation opted not to renew his contract on Friday. The 2024 Africa Cup of Nations winner had expected to stay on.

According to L'Équipe, he learned on Friday morning that he would not continue beyond that evening, when his deal expired.

Faé spent a little over three years with the national team, first as Jean-Louis Gasset’s assistant, then as interim coach, lifting the trophy in February 2024.

He was later confirmed as head coach for the 2025 tournament, then took charge at the 2026 World Cup.

The Elephants reached the first knockout phase in their history, before losing 1-2 to Norway in the round of 32.

The former midfielder would have liked to continue in the job.
