Émerse Faé set out his ambition after Côte d'Ivoire's late 1-0 victory over Ecuador in World Cup Group E on Sunday. According to L'Équipe, he wants his side to challenge Germany for a win on Saturday 20 June at 22:00 to secure qualification on matchday two.

The result was clinched in the closing minutes, giving Côte d'Ivoire an ideal start to the tournament.

Faé pointed to their 2-1 friendly win over France on 4 June and said Ecuador had been very tough opponents.

He accepted Germany would be a difficult assignment, highlighting their experience, multiple World Cup wins, players at leading European clubs and a potent attack.

Faé added that his team were not in the United States to sightsee and head home.
