Leeds United Women return to FA Women’s National League Cup action this weekend, making the short trip across the A64 to face York City Ladies.

The Whites currently sit joint-top of Group U after a 1-0 victory over Halifax and a 2-2 draw away at Norton & Stockton Ancients, whereas York are still searching for their first point following defeat at home to the Teessiders and a 6-1 loss to Halifax.

Last time out in the league, Leeds recorded a stunning 7-0 victory over a struggling Blackburn side, with goals coming from Drew Greene and Chloe Dixon’s brace in the first half, and finishes from Amy Woodruff, Darcie Greene, Alice Hughes and Monique Watson the other side of the break.

Ahead of the match, Leeds and former York defender Emily Cassidy spoke on the clash: “It’s exciting and it’s always nice to have a cup game – we’re definitely looking forward to the cup and I’m looking forward to facing the side I used to play for.

“York are struggling a little bit and being my old team and a rival, it definitely adds a bit of an edge.”

On last week’s 7-0 victory: “It’s really significant, to score those goals is something we want to do to improve our performance so the win on Sunday and the way we played is definitely a big step in the right direction.

“For me, we have a really good backline so the clean sheet is something we want to build on and hopefully have another on Sunday.

“It gives us the chance to play teams we wouldn’t necessarily play in the league,” Cassidy added, referring to progressing in the cup. “It gives us something to strive towards and take your mind a little bit off the pressures of the league and winning those games.”
