According to L'Équipe, Strasbourg have sprung a surprise in Mainz, starting Maxi Oyedele in a new 4-3-3 for the Conference League quarter-final first leg.

Last weekend he made his first appearance in four months against Nice, 3-1.

Emmanuel Emegha starts on the bench on Thursday in Mainz.

Gary O'Neil has reinforced midfield with a trio of Oyedele, Valentin Barco and Samir El-Mourabet, aimed at slightly easing the defensive duties of Gessime Yassine, Martial Godo and Julio Enciso.

Abdoul Ouattara and Datro Fofana are unavailable, as is Aaron Anselmino.
