Emmanuel Macron salutes 1976 Saint-Étienne as legends reunite for 50th anniversary | OneFootball

Emmanuel Macron sent a video message to Saint-Étienne’s 1976 European Cup finalists as they gathered for a gala on Friday, marking 50 years since the Glasgow final.

According to L'Équipe, the reunion was held in the Salon 1933 at Geoffroy-Guichard, where two video messages were played, the first from the President recorded at the Élysée the previous day.

Macron told guests that the 1976 Saint-Étienne side were not France’s national team, rather the team of France.

The second message came from ASSE president Larry Tanenbaum, who could not attend the dinner in person.

He is set to arrive in Saint-Étienne on Saturday to attend the match against Amiens, described as decisive for promotion to Ligue 1.
