Endrick raised the prospect of a second season at Lyon after Sunday’s 4-2 win over Rennes, but any return remains far from straightforward.
According to L'Équipe, the 19-year-old, on loan from Real Madrid since January, gave his first interviews in French four months after arriving. Earlier, he said he feels very happy, would leave his future to God, and could either go back to Madrid or extend in Lyon, adding he would like to stay because the club look after him.
Asked if Champions League qualification would sway him, he replied in Portuguese that he would do what God and his wife advise. He called finishing the season with OL one of his best decisions and thanked the club, staff, team-mates and supporters.
He must report back to Real Madrid at the end of the campaign and the club have told his agents they are counting on him next season. Lyon have not commented and, at present, the loan is not renewable.
His adaptation has been strong, with 11 Ligue 1 goal involvements since his 18 January debut, five goals and six assists. For now he is focused on Lyon’s final two games, at Toulouse on Sunday and against Lens on 17 May, while eyeing the World Cup in June and July after a recent Brazil call-up.
Paulo Fonseca has worked closely with him in recent weeks after a brief April reprimand. The door to a second season is open, but he is still some way from walking through it.
