England laboured in attack and were held 0-0 by Ghana at the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday night. L'Équipe notes that Kane struggled while goalkeeper Benjamin Asare delivered the key interventions.
Thomas Partey, formerly of Arsenal and now at Villarreal, marshalled Ghana’s rearguard. He broke up England’s first-half moves, notably those of Bellingham. Declan Rice’s corners were well delivered but lacked takers, unlike at Arsenal.
Bellingham operated centrally behind Kane and pressed diligently, including a recovery on Semenyo on 48 minutes, but offered too little on the ball. Kane was largely isolated for long spells.
Inaki Williams was quiet on the right, booked on 60 minutes and withdrawn for Abdul Fatawu six minutes later, with no shots or duels won. Captain Jordan Ayew also lacked bite, finishing with no shots, one touch in the box, 10 turnovers from 26 touches, and seven wins from 16 duels.
Elliot Anderson was tidy in duels and a threat at set plays before Eberechi Eze replaced him in the 74th minute.
Late on, Asare saved Bukayo Saka’s left-footed shot from the edge of the box on 86 minutes and punched clear at 90+4. Kane also squandered his only opening with a 15-metre effort off target, and team-mates mobbed Asare at full time.
