England maintained their flawless World Cup qualifying record as they secured a composed 2-0 victory over Serbia at Wembley on Thursday.
This win extends their perfect run to seven wins from seven matches. Furthermore, Thomas Tuchel’s side has yet to concede a single goal in this campaign. A superb 28th-minute volley from Bukayo Saka set the Three Lions on their way. Later, substitute Eberechi Eze sealed the points with a well-taken strike in stoppage time.
In midfield, the partnership of Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson once again played very well. Meanwhile, Morgan Rogers continued to make a strong case for a starting spot at next summer’s tournament.
Here is how the individual performances rated at Wembley:
Jordan Pickford – 6/10 Earned his 10th international clean sheet in a row. This demonstrates the strength of the team’s new defensive structure. A rare loose pass nearly caused problems, but he was otherwise calm and had little to do.
Reece James – 8/10 This performance was a return to his very best. He was excellent down the right side. He consistently provided an attacking option, sending in numerous dangerous crosses.
Nico O’Reilly – 7/10 This was a very calm and impressive debut for the 20-year-old Manchester City youngster. He was not nervous at all. His deflected shot led directly to Saka’s goal. He also played a solid, balanced role on the left side.

Ezri Konsa – 7/10 Handled the physical side of the game very well. He did an impressive job of keeping Serbia’s star striker, Dušan Vlahović, quiet. This calm performance enhances his chances of starting alongside John Stones at the World Cup.
John Stones – 7/10 Read the game very well, as usual. He stepped in to effectively stop Serbia’s attacks. It was another confident and reliable performance from England’s main defender.
Elliot Anderson – 8/10 Already looks like a player England cannot drop. He played in the deep midfield role and controlled the game’s pace. Furthermore, his smart positioning allowed his midfield partner more freedom.
Declan Rice – 8/10 Operated as the team’s engine. With Anderson sitting deep, Rice had the freedom to run everywhere. He provided moments of real quality, including a brilliant pass that sent Rashford through on goal.
Marcus Rashford – 6/10 Showed moments of skill, including a confident nutmeg. However, he did not make the most of his rare start. His final pass or shot was not good enough before he was subbed off.
Morgan Rogers – 7/10 Tuchel once again trusted him in the main attacking midfield role. He excited the crowd with some great early touches. He will be frustrated that he headed his best chance wide, but he continues to play well.
Bukayo Saka – 8/10 (Player of the Match) Broke the deadlock with a superb, technically brilliant cushioned volley after O’Reilly’s initial effort was blocked. This goal was his 14th for England in just 47 appearances since his 2020 debut.
Harry Kane – 7/10 Will be annoyed he missed a free header from a corner. His real impact, however, came when he dropped deep. His long, accurate passes switched the play and started several England attacks.
Eberechi Eze (for Rashford, 65′) – 8/10 Changed the game after coming on. He immediately looked dangerous and was hard to predict. He also took his stoppage-time goal very well to seal the victory.
Phil Foden (for Kane, 65′) – 7/10 Tuchel used him in a clever ‘false nine’ position. He looked sharp and provided the smart assist for Eze’s final goal.
Jude Bellingham (for Rogers, 65′) – 7/10 Looked eager to make an impact on his return from injury. He now faces a real fight to win back his starting spot from the in-form Rogers. This is because Tuchel prefers to use only one central attacking midfielder.
Jordan Henderson (for Rice, 65′) – 7/10 Delivered a crucial cross that created a chance for Foden. He also brought his usual veteran calm to the midfield.
Adam Wharton (for Anderson, 84′) – 6/10 This was a late appearance for his second cap. He helped to see out the win.
