The Lionesses will be taking three goalkeepers to the 2027 Women’s World Cup and Yachine Trophy winner Hannah Hampton leads the way to start in two years.

Hampton missed the 2-1 defeat to Brazil with a minor elbow injury but stepped back in for their 3-0 win over Australia. She was rarely troubled as England had 29 shots compared to Australia’s three.

Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating cemented her role as back-up for Hampton after she made her England debut in the defeat to Brazil. She was selected over Anna Moorhouse and Sophie Baggaley, with the latter being a late call-up to the squad after Hampton suffered her injury.

In our last power rankings, Aston Villa’s Ellie Roebuck was our choice for the third goalkeeper on the plane to Brazil in 2027. However, Wiegman selected four goalkeepers over Roebuck for the friendlies with Brazil and Australia. Therefore, she is replaced on our list by 30-year-old Orlando Pride goalkeeper Moorhouse.

England Defenders

October’s international fixtures were an interesting one when it comes to England defenders.

England captain Leah Williamson was out of the squad with an injury, while Arsenal pair Katie Reid and Lotte Wubben-Moy were forced to pull out of the squad.

Lucy Bronze and Niamh Charles made the squad but are coming off the back of their own injuries, while Taylor Hinds made her debut against Australia.

Despite missing both friendlies, Williamson is still the highest-ranked defender in our power rankings. She is followed by Maya Le Tissier, who finally got her start at centre-back against Australia, after Sarina Wiegman previously said she saw Le Tissier as more of a right-back for the Lionesses.

Bronze will be 35 by the time the next World Cup starts, but as long as she is fit and healthy, it would be a surprise to see her omitted from the squad.

Esme Morgan, Jess Carter and Lotte Wubben-Moy all currently make the squad, as well as veteran Alex Greenwood.

However, some players are knocking on the door. Hinds showed that she could be an option for left-back, and although Reid was unable to make her England debut, her performances for Arsenal are giving Wiegman something to think about.

England Midfielders

Lucia Kendall has jumped into our World Cup squad in the England 2027 World Cup power rankings list after a Player of the Match debut against Australia.

England head coach Wiegman said that Kendall deserved her start against the Matildas.

The presence of Kendall could affect the chances for the likes of Lola Brown, who has been a star for England’s youth teams. The uncapped 17-year-old drops down our rankings, but has plenty of time to work her way back into the 23.

With Jess Park and Grace Clinton unavailable for the Lionesses, Kendall took her opportunity on Tuesday night, and it is likely we will see more of the 21-year-old in future England camps.

Georgia Stanway is still England’s top midfield option after scoring a penalty on Tuesday, while it was telling that Wiegman handed the captain’s armband to Keira Walsh in the absence of Williamson.

Ella Toone, Clinton and Park are all in very strong positions to make the World Cup squad in two years.

England Attackers

Aggie Beever-Jones continues to cement her place in the England squad after scoring in the victory over Australia.

The Chelsea star’s best position is as the central striker, but she can also play out wide, giving her a strong chance of making the starting XI in 2027 next to Alessia Russo.

Lauren James and Lauren Hemp are likely to retain their spots in the squad for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The duo are both still young and offers a lot of threat from wide positions. However, the only concern is their respective injury records.

Chloe Kelly will also still be in her 20s by the time of the World Cup and should make the cut.

Our attacking options are completed by Michelle Agyemang. However, there are fears over the extent of the injury she suffered on Tuesday night, after she was taken off on a stretcher after appearing to hurt her knee.

England squad power rankings

Below, we have ranked the Lionesses in order of how likely they are to make the plane to Brazil for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Those higher up are most likely only to miss out due to injuries, while those lower down the list are still fighting for their place in the squad.

The rankings below also show how they fare in their rankings compared to our rankings before the recent international friendlies.
