England supporters have begun pouring into Boston as the city sees off the departing Tartan Army. Thousands are expected over the coming days before England face Ghana at Gillette Stadium in nearby Foxborough on Tuesday. Locals and visiting supporters hope the incoming fans can match the atmosphere Scotland created over the past week.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Three Lions fans started arriving at Boston Logan International Airport on Saturday, with many still seeking tickets amid steep prices.

As Scotland fans left following their narrow defeat to Morocco on Friday, Massachusetts-based Londoner Kieron Matthews, 54, said he had enjoyed the Tartan Army’s party mood and felt the city had been warm and happy.

For those landing on Saturday, ticket prices dominated thoughts. Louis Spiteri, 35, from London, had been saving since the tournament was announced, noting the Qatar and Russia editions were harder to get excited about.

Fellow Manchester United fan Matt Roberts, 37, from Essex, called prices outrageous but said he and friends were determined to experience the World Cup, which they still expect to be brilliant. Gareth Brazier, 49, from Sunderland, also pointed to what he called crazy prices.

Some supporters arrived without tickets and hoped costs might ease before kick-off. Karl Wall, 54, from Whitby, said he had left tickets in his online basket because the price was too high.
