England make decision on Thomas Tuchel future after Argentina defeat | OneFootball

England missed out on an opportunity to reach the World Cup final after losing 2-1 to Argentina on Wednesday at the Atlanta Stadium. 

Thomas Tuchel received a lot of criticism from fans and pundits for adopting a defensive approach after Anthony Gordon’s 55th-minute breakthrough. 

Despite their disappointing World Cup exit, the German’s position as England manager looks safe. 

According to BBC Sport, Tuchel retains the backing of the Football Association and is expected to lead the team into Euro 2028. 

The 52-year-old was appointed in January 2025 on a deal that was scheduled to run until the World Cup. 

But he signed a two-year contract extension in February through to Euro 2028. 

England came into the World Cup as one of the top favourites, and they lived up to the hype by thrashing Croatia 4-2 in their opening game. 

Their subsequent displays against Ghana and Panama were not convincing, but they made significant improvement in the knockout stages. 

After overcoming DR Congo, the Three Lions produced a masterclass at the Estadio Azteca to seal a memorable victory against Mexico. 

Norway was a tricky fixture, but they came through with flying colours. 

England looked on course to reach the World Cup final when Gordon gave them the lead after 55 minutes against Argentina. 

But late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez condemned the European team to a disappointing 2-1 defeat.
