Harry Kane’s remarkable start to the season goes on as Jordan Pickford extends clean sheet record in Riga demolition
An opener from Anthony Gordon and two goals from Harry Kane had the Three Lions three up at the interval in Riga.
Then came a freakish own goal from Latvia defender Maksims Tonisevs which put England 4-0 up after the break.
Their fifth and final goal of a one-sided match came from substitute Eberechi Eze, as England became the first European nation to book their place at next summer’s tournament in North America.
Dom Smith was on hand to rate the England players’ performances…
Jordan Pickford 6
Kept a record ninth consecutive clean sheet for his country - and did have saves to make in the second half.
Djed Spence 7
Put in a highly-impressive performance on his full debut against Wales on Thursday and was similarly energetic in the Latvian capital, where instead of left-back, he played on the right.
John Stones 7
Solid at the back and produced a superb assist for Gordon’s opener. One vital defensive headed clearance.
Ezri Konsa 6
Very composed on the ball as he came in for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who was rested. One excellent sliding tackle.
Myles Lewis-Skelly 5
Lost the ball a few times but made a few nice inroads into midfield, as he always does.
What a find in midfield for England. Used his physicality well and was also very sensible in his distribution.
Declan Rice 6
Rotated play swiftly and decisively for England and was their nominal corner taker. Replaced on the hour mark, which Mikel Arteta will have liked.
Bukayo Saka 6
Not the most effective performance from the Arsenal winger, but that’s no issue, because he scored a belter against Wales on Thursday.
Morgan Rogers 6
Full of energy for the 60 minutes he was on. It will be fascinating to see whether he can keep his place now. Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer are watching on with interest.
Anthony Gordon 8
England’s clear man of the match on the night. Was relentless in the press and scored a fantastic goal, latching on to Stones’s long ball and cutting in before firing home.
Harry Kane 7
Added another two goals to his bulging international catalogue, thundering in off his left foot and then dispatching confidently from the penalty spot off his right.
Jordan Henderson (Rice, 60’) 6
Kept England on the ball and ticking over nicely once he entered the fray.
Eberechi Eze (Rogers, 60’) 7
His first international goal came against Latvia at Wembley in March, and a second duly arrived here. Fine run and a confident finish.
Jarrod Bowen (Saka, 60’) 6
Assisted Eze’s goal with a smart turnover of the ball and then the right pass to pick him out.
Marcus Rashford (Gordon, 71’) 6
Came on and tried to make things happen, producing one lovely nutmeg.
Dan Burn (Stones, 71’) 5
Some decent tackles. Another cap in the bank for the 33-year-old.
Not used: D Henderson, Trafford, Guehi, O’Reilly, Loftus-Cheek, Gibbs-White
