England have received a timely injury boost ahead of their World Cup quarter-final clash with Norway on Saturday.
According to The Telegraph, Reece James could return to the national side for the quarter-final showdown at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
James picked up a hamstring injury during the goalless draw with Ghana, missing the subsequent three matches against Panama, DR Congo and Mexico.
England’s defensive problems intensified after Jarell Quansah’s red card in Sunday’s win over Mexico, thus ruling him out for the next game in Florida.
James is yet to return to full training, but there is emerging hope the right-back will recover in time to feature against Norway.
Ezri Konsa and Djed Spence remain options for manager Thomas Tuchel, but the expected availability of the Chelsea star will come as a boost given his powerful physique and defensive prowess.
England will be high on confidence following their thrilling 3-2 victory over Mexico at the daunting Estadio Azteca.
A brilliant brace from Jude Bellingham put the Three Lions in control, but victory appeared to be slipping from them after Quansah’s second-half red card.
Harry Kane restored their two-goal advantage from the spot before conceding a penalty, which was converted by Raul Jimenez.
Mexico pushed for the equaliser, but they failed to find a way through a resolute England side.
Tuchel’s charges now face Norway, who overcame Brazil in the round of 16.
