England to host Uruguay then Japan at Wembley in March | OneFootball

England will play Japan at Wembley in March, a fixture Kaoru Mitoma can eye as he returns from injury.

Uruguay visit on March 27, with Japan following four days later, the last home games before the World Cup. Thomas Tuchel said he was pleased to have top-20 opponents from outside Europe as the World Cup year takes shape.

The double-header was set after last week’s World Cup draw and should offer a sterner examination after England’s 100 per cent qualifying campaign.

Uruguay are ranked 16th and Japan 18th, and both nations are also going to the World Cup. The matches are the final chance for players to impress Tuchel before he names his squad in May.

England are then expected to play two friendlies in the United States before heading into camp. They will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama in Group L at the finals.

Mitoma featured for Japan at the 2022 finals in Qatar and will be key again in North America and Mexico.
