Lee Carsley says Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly will benefit considerably from back-to-back 90 minutes for England’s Under-21s.

Lewis-Skelly helped his side to a 4-1 win over Moldova at Carrow Road on Tuesday night, having also played in a 1-1 draw in Andorra last Friday.

The 19-year-old has struggled for game time at Arsenal this season, having not featured in the Premier League since January.

But his England U21 boss hailed the youngster’s attitude and focus for his side.

“There’s no point in us bringing players of high potential and then not playing them,” Carsley said.

“A player like Myles is a real asset for us, but we have to make sure that we get the head as well as the body. We definitely got that with Myles. His attitude was outstanding.”

Asked if he had spoken to Lewis-Skelly about his lack of game time at Arsenal, Carsley said: “No, I can’t control that and nor can he, so it’s down to the manager.

“But what I can control is the minutes I give him at an international level. For him to do two 90s in a short span of time, it sets him up nicely now going back to Arsenal.”
