Thomas Tuchel puts finishing touches on his Three Lions side as they face All Whites
World Cup fever is set to intensify this evening as England get their final tournament preparations underway, facing New Zealand in a friendly. It is Thomas Tuchel’s penultimate opportunity to see his Three Lions in match action, with next week’s match against Costa Rica the last. England have now been stateside for a week, gearing up for the World Cup at a warm-weather training camp in Miami, and the conditions this evening will be characteristically toasty for Florida in June.
Temperatures of 32C are expected come kick-off at the Raymond James Stadium, but Tuchel will have plenty to sweat over beyond the weather. The stadium’s playing surface is not quite up to Premier League scratch, and he will hope at the very least to keep his players fit, with a first group stage match against Croatia now just 11 days away. The All Whites of New Zealand, meanwhile, are gearing up for just their third World Cup appearance, with Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood leading the line.
Today, though, will afford fans a first glimpse at England’s World Cup hopefuls as Tuchel looks to put the finishing touches on his side. Keep up with the action from Tampa as it happens below with Standard Sport’s dedicated match blog, complete with expert insight and analysis from Oli Gent.
