Enrique Riquelme adds another iconic Real Madrid figure to his ambitious project | OneFootball

Enrique Riquelme continues to strengthen his presidential project at Real Madrid, with another iconic figure from the club’s history now joining his team ahead of a potential election battle.

After recently revealing plans involving Raul Gonzalez and Fernando Hierro, the presidential candidate has now confirmed that former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas is also part of his vision for the future of the club.

The latest announcement adds another legendary name to a project that is being built around figures closely associated with some of the most successful periods in Real Madrid’s history.

Casillas joins list of Real Madrid legends backing Riquelme

Riquelme himself revealed that Casillas has agreed to become part of his team should he be elected president. 

While the exact details of his future position have not yet been fully defined, the former goalkeeper is expected to occupy an important role within the club’s organisational structure.

The plan involves corporate responsibilities, allowing Casillas to contribute away from the pitch while remaining closely involved in the club’s day-to-day operations.

His arrival follows the previously announced additions of Raul and Hierro. 

Riquelme has already stated that Raul would become sporting director under his leadership, while Hierro has been earmarked for a major role overseeing La Fabrica, Real Madrid’s renowned academy system.

The idea behind the project is to place former club legends in key positions throughout the organisation and reinforce what Riquelme believes is the traditional Real Madrid identity.

At present, one major piece of the sporting structure still appears to be missing: the head coach.

While several executive and football positions have reportedly been outlined, no managerial appointment has yet been confirmed, although he has mentioned Klopp a lot during his many appearances.

Then there is Del Bosque

From an electoral perspective, Riquelme’s strategy is to surround the club with some of the most respected names in Real Madrid history. 

On that note, Casillas remains one of the most beloved figures ever to wear the Real Madrid shirt, while Raul and Hierro are equally associated with the club’s success and values. 

On the other hand, Riquelme also revealed that another legendary figure will be involved in his plans. Speaking about the project, he told COPE,

“Vicente del Bosque will be part of our project in a completely selfless way, solely for the good of Real Madrid.”
