Enrique Riquelme launches opposition platform against Florentino Pérez at Real Madrid | OneFootball

Three weeks after losing the Real Madrid presidential election, Enrique Riquelme has launched an opposition platform against Florentino Pérez.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he announced the move in a statement issued by his campaign team, framing it as a defence of members' rights ahead of forthcoming institutional decisions.

Although defeated on seven June, a result he had expected, the support he received has encouraged him to stay active. One third of voting members backed his project, which now becomes the vehicle for his opposition.

His former campaign office on Rafael Salgado street, by the Bernabéu, will serve as the platform's base. It is intended as a meeting point for socios and madridistas to discuss challenges, share diagnoses and advance proposals.

Riquelme plans to centre his challenge on Pérez's proposal to sell part of Real Madrid's business, which is due to go to an extraordinary assembly then a referendum. The move effectively signals his intention to run again for the presidency.

Riquelme, the owner of the team Cox, presents the platform as non-confrontational, seeking a useful, rigorous and constructive conversation about the club's present and future. He argues it aligns with the club's prestige, its governing bodies and ethical values of integrity, transparency, responsibility and neutrality.
