Enzo Maresca names one thing Marc Guiu does which could earn him a start | OneFootball

There was a moment a couple of weeks ago that we feared Marc Guiu might end up not playing at all, despite being recalled from his loan in August.

But he came on as a sub against Liverpool and again today, and impressed with his work rate as ever. After the game, manager Enzo Maresca praised him:

“I think he [Guiu] was on for 15 minutes against Liverpool, fighting with Van Dijk, Konate, Gravenberch, and he was very good. Today, after one minute of the second half, he won a corner against Morato. So we need that from Marc.”

Guiu leading the line creates space for Joao Pedro to play deeper. The Brazilian looked far better in the second half when he had Guiu ahead of him.

Manager adds to Acheampong praise

Maresca also had nice things to say about another youngster. Josh Acheampong has been praised from all sides for his goalscoring showing today, and Maresca added to that praise:

“Josh, as you said, I already said many times that I really like Josh,” Maresca said.

“We showed him confidence last season. And he’s doing well. And it’s important also that when you have Levi [Colwill] out or Tosin [Adarabioyo] out, that the other ones are ready. We need balance for Josh, because he’s obviously 19 and still developing, but he needs minutes to develop even more.”

Acheampong was assisted for his goal by Pedro Neto, who also scored the second. It was a great effort from the winger, whose stats from the game were superb.

Maresca left Wesley Fofana out of the squad today which generated a few questions. The boss tried to answer them in his press post game, but ended up leaving us with more questions than answers.
