Speaking on the new Inside Track, renowned journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko is on the radar of Newcastle United. O’Rourke said,
“Bakayoko I’m sure would probably be interested in a move if it was the right offer.
“He wants to be playing at the highest level, which Newcastle can offer to him with Champions League football.
“With his contract going into the final year, it could be a lot cheaper than potentially some of those other players, so he could be a very smart signing for Eddie Howe.”
Bakayoko had a decent campaign at the Dutch club as he put in a string of impressive performances for them in the final third. The 22-year-old netted 12 goals and secured three assists in 47 matches for PSV Eindhoven last season across all competitions.
The Belgian wide player did well to average 3.42 shots per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He kept 45% of his attempts on target. Bakayoko was even tidy when distributing the ball from the wide areas based on his pass success rate of 79.2% in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via fbref.com).

Bakayoko is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out on the flanks. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive third of the pitch and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The Belgian talent can contribute by scoring a handful of important goals for his team in the final third. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Magpies end up recruiting him this summer.
We can expect Bakayoko to bring more firepower to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. He has what it takes to challenge for regular first-team football at St. James’ Park next season.
At 22, the future looks quite bright for Bakayoko as long as he continues to improve with each year. Therefore, it makes sense for Newcastle to launch a move to bring him to Tyneside in this summer transfer window.
