Eric Garcia scored the first goal for Barcelona in the pre-season campaign being held in Asia as he netted the team’s opening goal against Vissel Kobe on Sunday.
Starting as the right-back, the Spaniard did a good job of providing cover in the department and was replaced at half-time by Jules Kounde.
The game eventually ended in a 3-1 win for the Catalans, who kicked off their pre-season in the best manner possible.
Speaking to the media after the game, the Barcelona defender was asked a very tricky question about the status of the captaincy at the club, especially with rumours of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen being stripped of the title floating around.
“It’s a topic that the coach takes (captainship vote). I guess that when we return to Barcelona, the coach will talk about it,” Eric said, preferring to err on the side of caution.
“Last year it was a vote, this year I don’t know how it will be, so we will wait to come back and see,” he added.
The player then opened up on the game itself and how it was playing, so shortly after a long travel to the other side of the globe.

“A little jet lag. It has been a difficult game because of the humidity and we have had little time since we landed.”
He also elaborated on what Hansi Flick expected from him and his role under the manager this season.
“Try to help as much as possible where Flick needs me. In Girona, I already played there and I am available where the coach needs me.”
Garcia was then quizzed on Barcelona’s chances in the UEFA Champions League this time around, especially given the heartbreak of last season.
“We know that last season was very good, but it can be improved, and we know it. We want the title we’re missing. If we want to have the same season we must go the same.”
Finally, the former Manchester City defender praised the new signings for the level they have shown, saying,
“I see the new additions very well. We already knew Joan from La Liga. He’s a great goalkeeper and it’s hard to score a goal in training.”
“Roony has surprised a lot these days and Marcus we all know how good he is. Among young people I see a lot of quality,” he concluded.
